When I returned to college after ten years, I had to relearn some things... like formatting a college paper because I found out that formatting guidelines change periodically.
People typically use either
APA or
MLA format to write their papers. (APA is often used in the social sciences, while MLA is used in liberal arts and humanities.)
Here are some of the basics:
- Use Times New Roman 12 point font, in black
- 1 inch margins at the top, bottom, and sides of the page
- Double spaced
- Title centered using uppercase and lowercase letters (do NOT bold or underline)

MLA paper. They also have

MLA which are very helpful (despite the annoying background music).
